Hurricane Maria

Thu 21 Sep 2017 — (6am) — Hurricane Maria caused extensive damage to Puerto Rico. The entire island, 3.4 million residents, are out of power for weeks or months.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the southeastern Bahamas, where Maria is expected to bring dangerous wind, storm surge, and heavy rainfall.

Tropical Storm Irma

Mon 11 Sep 2017 — (9am) — Irma is now a tropical storm, but still battering Florida and moving into Georgia and Alabama. Over 6 million people in Florida alone are without power. Storm surge and gusty winds are still doing damage. Although it could have been worse in many ways, it will be a while until we know the full extent of the wreckage in Irma's path. This will be our last update, along with the hope that all the countries and states vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes explore long-range solutions to reduce the threats.
