The archaeological team from Northwestern University, Chicago, was in Belize again in July and August, 2017. Corozaleños were treated to presentations during Ancient World Week at the House of Culture, including a site visit to the ongoing survey and excavations.
This map is drawn from a photo of a slide presented by Dr. Cynthia Robin at Ancient World Week 2017, and it may not be quite correct. But it does show some of the many structures and platforms that have already been identified. Click on the small image to see a larger map.
The pocket bajos are low-lying areas that probably held fresh water much of the year during Maya occupation of Aventura.
As part of their outreach, the team invited observation and participation by locals, whether for a day or for the summer. Here are some photos from the presentations and the site.
